Autoinfarcted wandering spleen and fatal pneumococcal sepsis in an infant.Breisch EA, Krous HF Department of Pathology, Children's Hospital and Health Center, 3020 Children's Way, M5007, San Diego, CA 92123, USA. ebreisc1@san.rr.com A wandering or ectopic spleen, a rare congenital condition caused by improper fixation of the ligamentous attachments, was identified during a postmortem examination of a 10-month-old female who had died of Streptococcus pneumoniae sepsis. The wandering spleen was autoinfarcted and adherent to the left hepatic lobe, with resultant functional hyposplenism. Published 1 April 2005 in Pediatr Dev Pathol, 8(1): 132-5.
